Analyst initiations: SPR, G and SEIC

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Spirit Aerosystems, Genpact and SEI Investments were today's noteworthy initiations:
  • Friedman Billings believes Spirit Aerosystems (NYSE: SPR) is well-positioned on key aircraft platforms and has significant revenue visibility. The firm started shares with an Outperform rating and $33 target.
  • Baird is positive on Genpact's (NYSE: G) recurring, non-discretionary revenue, strong growth in Global Client revenue, market leading position; shares were assumed with an Outperform rating and $16 target.
  • SEI Investments (NASDAQ: SEIC) was initiated with a Market Perform rating and $27 target at Keefe Bruyette, as they are cautious in the near-term due to industry headwinds.

Seven ways to play the airline sector

"There are several ways to play the airline industry without buying the airlines themselves." explains Benjamin Shepard, a research editor for Personal Finance. Here, he looks seven stocks that are poised to profit as the sector "gets its wings again."

Hexcel Corp. (NYSE: HXL), he notes, is the largest producer of woven carbon-fiber sheets, which are extremely important for both Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner, as well as for the new Airbus A380. He rates thes tock a buy up to 25.

Aircastle (NYSE: AYR) and Genesis Lease (NYSE: GLS) are both aircraft leasing companies and publicly traded partnerships, and both are holdings in the Personal Finance model portfolio. He notes, "As airlines continue their recovery and passenger volume rises, older planes must be replaced and new planes added to the fleets."

Both partnerships, he notes, are based in Ireland and lease to both passenger airlines and cargo companies around the world. He says, ""Aircastle and Genesis are excellent bets on the continued growth of air travel and pay dividends of around 6% and 8%, respectively."

Analyst initiations 9-4-07: VOLT, PWRD and ASPV

MOST NOTEWORTHY: European banks, Voltaire, Perfect World and Aspreva Pharmaceuticals were today's noteworthy initiations:
  • Morgan Stanley assumed coverage of Credit Suisse Group (NYSE: CS) with an Overweight rating, Deutsche Bank AG (NYSE: DB) with an Equal Weight rating and UBS AG (NYSE: UBS) with an Underweight rating.
  • Voltaire Ltd (NASDAQ: VOLT) was started with a Buy rating and $29 target at Goldman Sachs, with a Neutral rating at JP Morgan, with an Overweight rating and $12 target at Thomas Weisel and with an Outperform rating and $15 target at RBC Capital. Thomas Weisel said the market gives Voltaire very little credit for its strong position in the rapidly growing Infiniband switch market and RBC Capital believes the stock has impressive growth and gross margin momentum.
  • Perfect World Co Ltd (NASDAQ: PWRD) was initiated with a Positive rating at Susquehanna, as the firm is positive on its growth potential in the online gaming industry in China.
  • Aspreva Pharmaceuticals Corporation (NASDAQ: ASPV) was initiated with a Sector Perform at RBC Capital, as the firm believes the current valuation is not attractive, and recommends $17 as an attractive entry point. The firm set a target of $22 on the shares.
OTHER INITIATIONS:
  • Drugstore.com Inc (NASDAQ: DSCM) was started with a Market Perform rating at JMP Securities.
  • Wachovia started shares of BladeLogic Inc (NASDAQ: BLOG) with an Outperform rating and $17 target. The stock was also initiated at Morgan Stanley with an Equal Weight rating and at Citigroup with a Hold rating and $27.50 target.
  • Lehman initiated Spirit AeroSystems Holdings Inc (NYSE: SPR) with an Overweight rating and $43 target.
  • Goldman Sachs started shares of Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc (NYSE: MMC) with a Sell rating and $25 target.

Analyst initiations 6-28-07: AZN, DUK, JMP and SPR

MOST NOTEWORTHY: AstraZeneca (AZN), Ametek (AME), InterNAP Network Services (INAP) and Rosetta Genomics (ROSG) were today's noteworthy initiations:
  • Cowen believes AstraZeneca (NYSE: AZN) faces challenges from patent expirations, patent challenges, high-risk pipeline and value creation from deals, and initiated shares with a Neutral rating.
  • Ametek (NYSE: AME) was initiated at Friedman Billings with an Outperform rating and $44 target, as the firm believes AME has turned into a collection of niche-oriented high-value-added manufacturers of precision instrumentation, resulting in a high-margin, high-return business with above average growth.
  • InterNAP (NASDAQ: INAP) was initiated at Thomas Weisel with an Overweight rating, as the firm is positive on INAP's unique service offerings, VitalSteam acquisition opportunities, high growth customers, and improving collocation and bandwidth demand fundamentals.
  • Cantor expects Rosetta Genomics (NASDAQ: ROSG) to launch the world's first microRNA-based cancer diagnostic in the second-half of 2008 with a market of $200 million, and initiated shares with a Buy rating and $15 target.
OTHER INITIATIONS:
  • Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) was initiated with a Market Perform rating at BMO Capital.
  • Merrill Lynch initiated shares of JMP Group (NYSE: JMP) with a Buy rating.
  • UBS initiated shares of Itron (NASDAQ: ITRI) with a Neutral rating and $82 target.

Analyst initiations 1-3-07: Altera started with a Buy

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Altera Corp (NASDAQ: ALTR) and Chico's FAS (NYSE: CHS) were the most noteworthy companies initiated today.
  • Shares of Altera Corp (NASDAQ: ALTR) were initiated with a Buy rating and $26 at Nollenberger; the firm believes that due to the company's faster growth rate, increasing market share and higher gross margins, shares should trade at a premium to Xilinx Inc (NASDAQ: XLNX).
  • Soleil Securities initiated shares of Chico's FAS (NYSE: CHS) with a Hold rating, believing it may take at least through the spring season to see a meaningful improvement in operating results.

OTHER INITIATIONS:
  • Spirit Aerosystems 'A' (NYSE: SPR) was initiated by several firms: Jefferies with a Buy and $36 target, Credit Suisse with a Neutral and $35 target, Citigroup with a Sell rating and $24 target, Morgan Stanley with an Overweight and $38 target, Cowen with a Neutral rating and UBS with a Neutral and $38 target.
  • NYMEX Holdings (NYSE: NMX) was initiated with an Underweight rating at JP Morgan, citing the rich valuation for its rating.
  • Shares of Hansen Medical (NASDAQ: HNSN) were initiated with an Overweight rating and a $16 target at Morgan Stanley.
