This is a significant announcement given the size of the two companies and since there was speculation that Sprint (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/sprint-nextel-corporation/s/nys">S</a>) might look to acquire T-Mobile. Sprint's shares were down 14% on this news. AT&amp;T's move pits it firmly against Verizon (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/verizon-communications-inc/vz/nys">VZ</a>) as both operators continue to build out their 4G networks. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.trefis.com/company?hm=T.trefis&amp;">Our price estimate for AT&amp;T's stock stands at $35.80</a> which is around 40% ahead of the market price.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/24/the-race-for-4g-atandt-buys-t-mobile/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The Race for 4G: AT&amp;T Buys T-Mobile</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/24/the-race-for-4g-atandt-buys-t-mobile/">The Race for 4G: AT&amp;T Buys T-Mobile</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 24 Mar 2011 10:10:00 EST. Deutche Telekom will get an 8% stake in AT&amp;T. <br />
This is a game changer. Now AT&amp;T will have one-third more customers than Verizon (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/verizon-communications-inc/vz/nys" class="inlinked">VZ</a>) and twice as many as Sprint Nextel (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/s/nys">S</a>). The new AT&amp;T will have about 130 million subscribers. AT&amp;T will have nearly 80% of its business in wireless.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/21/ma-bell-returns-atandt-to-buy-t-mobile-for-39-billion/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Ma Bell Returns: AT&amp;T to Buy T-Mobile for $39 Billion</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/21/ma-bell-returns-atandt-to-buy-t-mobile-for-39-billion/">Ma Bell Returns: AT&amp;T to Buy T-Mobile for $39 Billion</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 21 Mar 2011 09:00:00 EST. The average monthly fee that Verizon's postpaid wireless subscribers pay for wireless service, excluding data service, has been consistently declining over the past few years. The decline in pricing is mainly attributable to nearing saturation of the U.S. cellular market, creating fierce competition among telecom players to maintain and increase their market share.<br />
<br />
A successful Verizon-iPhone (<a class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>) deal and rising data revenues from smart phone penetration could, however, offset declines in average mobile plan prices.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/04/outlook-for-verizon-s-mobile-plan-pricing/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Outlook for Verizon's Mobile Plan Pricing</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/04/outlook-for-verizon-s-mobile-plan-pricing/">Outlook for Verizon's Mobile Plan Pricing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 04 Mar 2011 09:00:00 EST. At the same time, the phone's exclusive carrier, AT&amp;T (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/atandt-inc/t/nys">T</a>), would suffer. There would also be problems for Sprint (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/sprint-nextel-corporation/s/nys">S</a>), which would likely see customer defections.</p>
<p>Of course, the wild-card is: how big would the impact be? Well, according to a <a href="http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9180739/Most_Verizon_customers_likely_to_buy_Apple_iPhone?taxonomyId=15">recent survey</a> from Morpace Omnibus, over half of Verizon customers would move over to the iPhone. Consider that the company has more than 92 million customers across the U.S.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/16/verizon-users-would-switch-for-an-iphone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Over Half of Verizon Users Would Switch for an iPhone?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/08/16/verizon-users-would-switch-for-an-iphone/">Over Half of Verizon Users Would Switch for an iPhone?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 16 Aug 2010 11:00:00 EST. <p>The brokerage upped Sprint to buy from neutral, issuing a $6 price target, a nice elevation from the previous target of $3.50. Goldman noted that the reason for the upgrade is churn, and that the company is "about to move the needle." Goldman stated, "Sprint's gross add/upgrade activity slowed sharply in 2008, which ironically should benefit the company over the course of 2010 as the logical pool of churn subscribers is reduced." The upgrade comes basically from a glorified hunch.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/24/sprint-nextel-upgrade/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sprint Nextel Upgraded to Buy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/24/sprint-nextel-upgrade/">Sprint Nextel Upgraded to Buy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 24 May 2010 12:30:00 EST. The telecom giant's loss checked in at 29 cents per share, 8 cents wider than last year's same-quarter loss. Removing charges stemming from an increased valuation allowance for deferred tax assets from the equation, Sprint lost 17 cents per share. The post-charge loss <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/article/sprint-nextel-subscriber-loss-slows-in/460860/">matched the consensus estimate</a>. <br />
<br />
Sprint's revenue totaled $8.09 billion, better than the expected revenue of $8.05 billion. Sprint added that it lost 75,000 net subscribers during the quarter. But when the company compared the results to a year ago, the telecom firm's improvement in post-paid gross subscriber additions and prepaid gross subscriber additions were the highest in five years.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/28/sprint-nextel-1Q-loss-widens/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sprint Nextel First-Quarter Net Loss Widens</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/28/sprint-nextel-1Q-loss-widens/">Sprint Nextel First-Quarter Net Loss Widens</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Wed, 28 Apr 2010 10:00:00 EST. <p><em>TheStreet.com's Jim Cramer says the bizarre rules these days make it worth looking at stocks through a different lens.</em></p>
<p>How much should we care about low-dollar speculation? How much should we care about the incessant trading in <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/cit-group-inc-del/cit/nys">CIT</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/cit-group-inc-del/cit/nys">CIT</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=CIT">Cramer's Take</a>) and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/federal-national-mortgage-association/fnm/nys">Fannie Mae</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/federal-national-mortgage-association/fnm/nys">FNM</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=FNM">Cramer's Take</a>), <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/alcatel-lucent/alu/nys">Alcatel-Lucent</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/alcatel-lucent/alu/nys">ALU</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=ALU">Cramer's Take</a>), or <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/vonage-holdings-corp/vg/nys">Vonage</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/vonage-holdings-corp/vg/nys">VG</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=VG">Cramer's Take</a>) and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/sprint-nextel-corporation/s/nys">Sprint</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/sprint-nextel-corporation/s/nys">S</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=S">Cramer's Take</a>)? Or even <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/citigroup-incorporated/c/nys">Citigroup</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/citigroup-incorporated/c/nys">C</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=C">Cramer's Take</a>)? </p>
<p>First, I have to tell you that I worry about it less than I used to. Why? Because when we used to have rules and government officials that were willing to speak the truth about stocks, we wouldn't have these single-digit players out there every day. But without it, how in heck can people not believe that Fannie and <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/federal-home-loan-mortgage-corporation/fre/nys">Freddie Mac</a> (NYSE: <a href="http://finance.aol.com/quotes/federal-home-loan-mortgage-corporation/fre/nys">FRE</a>) (<a href="http://find.thestreet.com/cgi-bin/texis/cramertake_free?site=tsc&amp;puc=aoljjc&amp;tkr=FRE">Cramer's Take</a>) are the biggest and best bets on a turn in housing?</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/08/27/cramer-on-bloggingstocks-reasonable-speculation/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Cramer on BloggingStocks: Reasonable speculation</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/08/27/cramer-on-bloggingstocks-reasonable-speculation/">Cramer on BloggingStocks: Reasonable speculation</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Thu, 27 Aug 2009 09:30:00 EST.
