<br />
Look for a 2% to 4% fiscal 2011 same store sales increase for TJX, which will continue to perform admirably in a consolidating retail sector.<br />
<br />
TJX, operator of the T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods chains, remains in the discount retail sweet spot: it's poised to gain market share in the era of the frugal consumer.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/01/tjx-companies-discount-retail-gem/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TJX Companies: Discount Retail Gem</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/03/01/tjx-companies-discount-retail-gem/">TJX Companies: Discount Retail Gem</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 01 Mar 2011 13:20:00 EST. Following last week's disappointing <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/retail-sales/19844535/">January retail sales numbers</a> from the Commerce Department but strong fourth-quarter reports from Abercrombie &amp; Fitch (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/abercrombie-and-fitch-co/anf/nys">ANF</a>) and Nordstrom (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/nordstrom-inc/jwn/nys">JWN</a>), the coming week will offer plenty more data on the sector for investors to mull over.</p>
<p><strong>Walmart</strong></p>
<p>Bentonville-based Walmart (<a target="_blank" class="inlinked" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/wal-mart-stores-inc/wmt/nys">WMT</a>) offered <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/walmart-offers-free-shipping-to-home-this-holiday-season-with-no-minimum-purchase-requirement-online-at-walmart-com/rfid385747683/?channel=pf">free holiday shipping</a>, closed its <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/walmart-announces-closure-of-moscow-office/rfid395482426/?channel=pf">Moscow office</a> and named a <a target="_blank" href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/walmart-u-s-appoints-duncan-mac-naughton-to-chief-merchandising-officer/rfid409237909/?channel=pf">chief merchandising officer</a> during its fourth quarter. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters forecast earnings for that period to come to $1.31 per share, up from $1.17 in the same quarter of last year. The world's largest retailer also is expected to post revenues of $117.7 billion for the three months that ended in January. That's 3.5% more than a year earlier.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/20/week-in-preview-retail-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Week in Preview: Walmart, Home Depot and More Retail Earnings</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2011/02/20/week-in-preview-retail-earnings/">Week in Preview: Walmart, Home Depot and More Retail Earnings</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 20 Feb 2011 12:30:00 EST. Consider this:</p>
<p>On Friday <a href="http://www.businesswire.com/news/tjx/20101210005407/en">TJX announced</a> it would cut 4,400 jobs and convert 91 A.J. Wright stores in to T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, or HomeGoods stores, while closing the remaining 71 A.J. Wright stores.</p>
<p>In other words, another casualty of what's likely to be a smaller retail cut of the U.S. GDP pie this decade.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/13/tjx-even-more-efficient-after-rightsizing/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TJX: Even More Efficient After Rightsizing</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/12/13/tjx-even-more-efficient-after-rightsizing/">TJX: Even More Efficient After Rightsizing</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Mon, 13 Dec 2010 14:30:00 EST. The tax-cut extension compromise is also now under threat of change. A better than expected U.S. trade deficit helped bolster the mood of investors and markets were up late in the day after faltering initially. Bullish strategist calls for 2011 from PIMCO and elsewhere also helped out this Friday. <br />

<p>The editor of <a href="http://www.dowtheory.com/">Dow Theory Forecasts</a> -- an advisorty service that has focused on blue chip stocks for over 50 years -- explains, "We have reviewed stocks that have climbed to within 25% of the price of their last split. Below, we review four of these stocks, all potential stock-split candidates: Apple (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/apple-inc/aapl/nas">AAPL</a>), Lubrizol (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/the-lubrizol-corporation/lz/nys">LZ</a>), TJX (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/tjx-companies-incorporated/tjx/nys">TJX</a>) and Varian Medical Systems (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/varian-medical-systems-inc/var/nys">VAR</a>).</p>
<p>"Is an increase in stock splits important? That turned out to be true. The stock has outpaced the market considerably. At the time, it was trading at $45.20. Last week, on Sept. 3, Ross closed at $52.60 for a year-to-date gain of 16.37%.</p>
<p>Ross pays a small dividend yielding 1.12%. It is not high, but it exceeds what you're getting from money market accounts or CDs and, added to the stocks appreciating, it's a bonus.</p>
<p>After this nice gain, how do the metrics shape up today? <br />
Look for a 2-4% fiscal 2011 same store sales increase for TJX, which will fare well in a consolidating retail sector.<br />
<br />
Off-price family apparel and home fashion retailer TJX (operator of the T.J. The chain, which competes with Kohl's (NYSE: <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/kohl-s-corporation/kss/nys">KSS</a>) and Target (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/target-corporation/tgt/nys">TGT</a>), issued Q1 results earlier today. Were they that bad?<br />
<br />
I didn't think so. According to the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/the-tjx-companies-inc-reports-63percent-increase-in-first-quarter-eps/rfid330339899/?channel=pf">press release</a>, earnings per share increased over 60% to 80 cents. In addition, <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/glossary/same%20store%20sales">same-store sales</a> rose 9%. <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE64H41X20100518?type=globalMarketsNews">Reuters</a> says that analysts were expecting 78 cents per share. So, management did pretty well on that count.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/18/tjx-buy-or-sell-after-q1/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TJX: Buy or Sell After Q1?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/18/tjx-buy-or-sell-after-q1/">TJX: Buy or Sell After Q1?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Tue, 18 May 2010 18:30:00 EST. Retailer The TJX Companies (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/tjx-companies-incorporated/tjx/nys">TJX</a>), first discussed here <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/05/12/the-tjx-companies-still-sailing-despite-rough-recession-current/">on May 12, 2009</a> at a price of $28.23, is one. <br />
<br />
Look for a 2-4% fiscal 2011 same store sales increase for TJX, which will fare well in a consolidating retail sector.<br />
<br />
Off-price family apparel and home fashion retailer TJX (operator of the T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods chains) remains in the discount retail sweet spot: it's poised to gain market share in the era of the 'frugal consumer.' At least for the initial stage of the U.S. economic expansion, most Americans simply will not have the disposal income to shop at mid/upscale clothing stores and retailers.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/07/the-tjx-companies-retail-sector-winner/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The TJX Companies: Retail Sector Winner</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/05/07/the-tjx-companies-retail-sector-winner/">The TJX Companies: Retail Sector Winner</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 07 May 2010 14:30:00 EST. JCPenney (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/penney-j-c-co-inc-holding-co/jcp/nys">JCP</a>), on the other hand, <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/19/jcpenney-shares-soar-on-earnings-beat/">easily topped earnings expectations</a>.</p>
<p>Many more shopping mall and strip mall stalwarts are scheduled to report results this week. The expectations of analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters are high for the likes of Sears Holdings Corp. Indeed they will, but not in patterns that were prevalent during the unsustainable, home equity loan-financed era. And that's a major reason The TJX Companies (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/tjx-companies-incorporated/tjx/nys">TJX</a>), which I first wrote about <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/05/12/the-tjx-companies-still-sailing-despite-rough-recession-current/">on May 12, 2009</a> at a price of $28.23, still looks attractive, according to my analysis.<br /> <br /> Off-price family apparel and home fashion retailer TJX (operator of the T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods chains) remains in the discount retail sweet spot: it's poised to gain market share in the era of the 'frugal consumer.' At least for the initial stage of the U.S. economic expansion, most Americans simply will not have the disposal income to shop at mid/upscale clothing stores and retailers. Of course, the real median income picture could change for the better, but most economic models suggest the U.S. is years away from traditional, median income growth.<p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/12/tjx-in-the-retail-sweet-spot/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>TJX: In the Retail Sweet Spot</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/02/12/tjx-in-the-retail-sweet-spot/">TJX: In the Retail Sweet Spot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Fri, 12 Feb 2010 15:20:00 EST.
