Interesting development in the world of football sponsorships, as New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady decided to leave Nike (NKE) and jump ship to Under Armour (UA). This is a rather interesting decision for Brady, as NKE is a true heavyweight in the world of performance athletic apparel. But Brady's jump to UA shows that the company is here to stay.

Brady is set to appear in different in-store and advertising promotional campaigns. As part of the new deal, Brady will wear UA apparel and footwear while training and he will debut the new UA Fierce cleat.

Brazilian top model Gisele BundchenBloomberg News reports that Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen refuses to be paid in dollars. In addition to landing undefeated (9-0) New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady -- although that relationship could be on the rocks -- she is one savvy currency trader.

Gisele Bundchen is proving to be a shrewd analyst of the U.S. dollar's weakness. When Bundchen signed a contract in August to represent Pantene hair products for Procter & Gamble Co. (NYSE: PG), she demanded payment in euros. She'll also get euros for the deal she reached last October with Dolce & Gabbana SpA in Milan to promote the Italian designer's new fragrance.

"Contracts starting now are more attractive in euros because we don't know what will happen to the dollar," Patricia Bundchen, the model's twin sister and manager in Brazil, said in a telephone interview in September from Sao Paulo.

Those Bundchens are smart cookies! Too bad I can't say the same for Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and his strong dollar policy.

Coca Cola (NYSE: KO) will pay New England Patriots heartthrob Tom Brady $3 million to $5 million to endorse Smartwater, Vitamin Water's sister brand that was acquired as part of the deal for Glaceau (which made 50 Cent a very rich man indeed...).

The Glaceau acquisition was part of Coke's strategy to pursue revenue growth as sales of carbonated beverage decline. According to the USA Today:

Brady, who dates a supermodel and makes gossip-column headlines as well as sports news, joins Jennifer Aniston in pitching the distilled water with added electrolytes. Replacement of electrolytes depleted in workouts can ease muscle fatigue. Smartwater is the top enhanced water with yoga enthusiasts, and Aniston has lent the brand a sexy, healthy lifestyle image. Brady adds some muscle to the healthy image.

You almost have to wonder about whether these products are a rip-off. If the company can pay Jennifer Aniston and Tom Brady millions of dollars to sell water, the mark-up has got to be pretty high.

But Tom Brady is as big as it gets right now, and this a pretty big coup for Glaceau.
