We'll start with Amazon.com Inc. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/amazon-com-inc/amzn/nas">AMZN</a>), an online business that could be a long-term growth story. Then, we'll check out Honeywell International Inc. (<a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/quotes/honeywell-international-inc/hon/nys">HON</a>), an industry conglomerate that hit a new 52-week high.</p>
<p><strong>Amazon </strong>has been <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/charts/amazon-com-inc/amzn/nas/tech-chart">on the move</a> over the past twelve months. You've got to respect the 52-week range, defined by a low of $73.10 and a high of $151.09. And you've got to like <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/company-news/amazon-earnings-strong-now-but-not-so-much-for-next-quarter/19450840/">Amazon's latest quarter</a>: net sales increased over 40% in Q1, and net income came in at 66 cents per share, five pennies ahead of the analysts. Also, according to the <a href="http://www.dailyfinance.com/rtn/pr/amazon-com-announces-first-quarter-sales-up-46percent-to-7-13-billion/rfid322020746/?channel=pf">press release</a>, free cash flow over the past year rose over 60% to $2.3 billion.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/24/amazon-q1-earnings-and-honeywell-q1-earnings/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Amazon and Honeywell: Buy or Sell?</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2010/04/24/amazon-q1-earnings-and-honeywell-q1-earnings/">Amazon and Honeywell: Buy or Sell?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sat, 24 Apr 2010 09:40:00 EST. I'm one of them, and I can tell you that I sometimes find myself still unable to process the fall the once mighty icon of Wall Street has taken because of too much financial exposure. I look to every earnings report for signs of a true recovery in the conglomerate, a restoration to its former glory. The latest Q4 report doesn't necessarily do anything to point me in such direction, but I keep trying to tell myself it's going to be a while, and to hang in there.</p>
<p>According to the company <a href="http://money.aol.com/rtn/pr/ge-reports-4q-and-x2019-09-eps-of-0-28-fy-and-x2019-09-eps-of-1-03-revenues-total-41-4b-for-quarter-157b-for-year-industrial-cfoa-of-5-1b-in-4q-and-16-6b-for-year/rfid291847729?channel=pf">press release</a>, GE, whose colleagues include Citigroup, Inc. <p>Revenues of $13.2 billion were below the consensus forecast for revenue of $13.92 billion. The diversified manufacturer also cut its revenue guidance for the year, and lowered the high-end of its profit forecast range.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/08/02/bellwether-stock-9-united-technologies-utx/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bellwether stock #9: United Technologies (UTX)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/08/02/bellwether-stock-9-united-technologies-utx/">Bellwether stock #9: United Technologies (UTX)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sun, 02 Aug 2009 12:00:00 EST. <p>That story is that revenues for many corporations are way down year over year, and more importantly, their top-line revenues are often coming in below Street estimates.</p>
<p>To be certain, there have been some <a href="http://www.investorplace.com/experts/louis_navellier/articles/gallery/top-stocks-coffee-stocks.html?cp=bloggingstocks&amp;cc=synd" target="_blank">real success stories</a> so far in Q2, and we'll be talking about some of those in a moment. Moreover, it is always a good sign when companies beat their earnings estimates.</p><p><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/08/01/the-real-earnings-story-behind-10-bellwether-stocks/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The real earnings story behind 10 bellwether stocks</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/08/01/the-real-earnings-story-behind-10-bellwether-stocks/">The real earnings story behind 10 bellwether stocks</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.bloggingstocks.com">BloggingStocks</a> on Sat, 01 Aug 2009 08:00:00 EST. The weakness of the dollar in the second quarter helped push shares of this multinational manufacturer higher. But these gains merely allowed the company to recover big losses sustained during the first quarter of the year.</p>
<p>The double whammy here for investors is exposure to the aerospace industry. As described previously, the weakness in the airline industry will negatively impact revenue for those companies providing equipment to the space. In addition, reductions in defense spending will also negatively impact UTX.</p>
<p>We are in the early stages of seeing change in how this company operates in the current environment. There is no catalyst for this stock to go higher, and shares are vulnerable to the extent the dollar strengthens. I would sell UTX.</p>
