'Sleep well' stocks: A global dividend trio

"During times such as these, I like to focus on big companies with clean balance sheets that pay decent dividends," says Glenn Rogers.

Here, the contributing editor to Internet Wealth Builder reviews his current stock holdings for a trio of global favorites offering upside potential while still allowing investors to "sleep well at night."

"Diageo Plc (NYSE: DEO) is well down from my original recommended price but compared to the overall market they have performed respectably.

"Meanwhile, the company recently issued a statement confirming its previous guidance of profit growth of between 7% and 9% in 2008.

"The company reported that organic net sales grew 6% in the three months to Sept. 30 and that there has been no material change in the financial position of the group during the period. Buy, with a target of $90.

"I have owned Knightsbridge Tankers (NASDAQ: VLCCF) longer than any other in my portfolio and it has never failed to pay a hefty dividend. The stock is currently trading at $17.40, thus yielding an incredible 17.2% based on a quarterly dividend of 75c a share.

Analyst upgrades: Molson Coors, Knightsbridge Tankers, Railroad sector

MOST NOTEWORTHY: Molson Coors, Knightsbridge Tankers and the Railroad sector were today's noteworthy upgrades:
  • Banc of America upgraded shares of Molson Coors (NYSE: TAP) to Buy from Neutral as they believe the company's joint venture with SABMiller (OTC: SBMRY) could nearly double North American profits and that risks are largely priced in shares.
  • Jefferies upgraded shares of Knightsbridge Tankers (NASDAQ: VLCCF) to Buy from Hold on valuation and finds the dividend yield attractive at 12.4%.
  • Bear raised the Railroad Sector to Overweight from Market Weight. The firm upgraded Burlington Northern Santa Fe (NYSE: BNI), Canadian National Railway (NYSE: CNI) and Union Pacific (NYSE: UNP) to Outperform from Peer Perform citing valuations and the belief that rail volumes are close to a bottom.

Analyst upgrades 5-17-07: COGN, PCLN and MGM

MOST NOTEWORTHY: MGM Mirage (MGM), USA Truck, Inc (USAK), Knightsbridge Tankers Ltd (VLCCF), Monolithic Power Systems, Inc (MPWR) and Stanley, Inc (SXE) topped out today's noteworthy upgrade list:
  • Prudential upgraded shares of MGM Mirage (NYSE: MGM) to Overweight from Neutral on valuation, as the firm believes the recent weakness presents a buying opportunity.
  • USA Truck Inc (NASDAQ: USAK) was raised to Equal Weight from Underweight at Stephens based on valuation.
  • Jefferies upgraded shares of Knightsbridge Tankers Ltd (NASDAQ: VLCCF) to Hold from Underperform to reflect the company's five vessels now operating on long-term time charter contracts and its recent entry into the dry bulk shipping sector.
  • Monolithic Power (NASDAQ: MPWR) was upgraded to Buy from Hold at Deutsche Bank following its patent win case against O2Micro International Ltd (OIIM).
  • Wachovia upgraded Stanley Inc (NYSE: SXE) to Outperform from Market Perform based on its strong Q4 report and guidance...

  • Cognos Inc (NASDAQ: COGN) was upgraded to Outperform from Sector Perform at Pacific Crest.

  • Buckingham upgraded TJX Cos (NYSE: TJX) to Strong Buy from Accumulate with a $33 target.
  • Lehman Brothers upgraded Volkswagen ADS (OTC: VLKAY) to Equal-Weight from Underweight.
